Workshop webpages

Each workshop now has an assigned website that can be accessed directly by interested participants. The use of the website should mean less photocopying of schedules, papers, announcements, etc. Information on creating a webpage for this site is available in the Council Office. It is up to each workshop’s coordinator(s) to create and/or update their websites. It is beyond the capacity of the Council to create individual webpages for each workshop.

In its endeavor to help create a cyber community of workshop webpages, the Council provides a basic template homepage file that can be altered according to your workshops needs. We have also provided instructions on how to edit the template and designate it as the home page for your workshop. For those student coordinators who are not familiar with the appropriate software programs to do so, there are also a number of other ways to acquire the knowledge. USITE offers classes at a number of different levels of web design – the basic introductory level class is generally offered once every quarter. To find out about these classes, search "html" at https://training.uchicago.edu/search.cfm.

HTML Fundamentals is for those individuals who are not familiar with web design. HTML Proficient is the next level class.. Another option is to approach other members of the workshop who might be willing to help. In all probability there is at least one workshop participant who is familiar with basic website maintenance. The Council office will assist with maintenance problems as much as possible. However, since this activity falls under coordinator duties, outside web design will not be paid for from the workshop budget.

There are also a number of internet resources for obtaining basic HTML knowledge such as:

Posting Policies

Please post workshop information on the bulletin board outside the Council office. Any announcements from the Council will be posted there as well. Coordinators must also follow the University policy for posting information on campus

Public Event Notice for Persons with Disabilities

University policy requires that in any advertising for any workshop event open to the University community or general public, you include a statement informing persons with disabilities whom they may contact to get assistance in attending the event. All workshops are public forums. The following statement must appear on any advertising for meetings or other functions sponsored by your workshop:

"Persons with a disability who believe they may need assistance, please call [name of workshop coordinator] in advance at [phone number where coordinator may be contacted]."

If someone contacts the CAS office with questions regarding access to your event, he/she will be referred to the workshop coordinator for further information/

Webpage Template

Please right-click on the template below to download it to your local machine. You will need a text editor such as Notepad or Wordpad to edit it. You may also use an HTML editor such as Dreamweaver or Homesite, but you will still need to manually sFTP the document back up to the server. A free sFTP client comes with the University's Connectivity pack. Notepad comes pre-installed on Windows machines, TextEdit comes on the Mac.

The editing instructions are in PDF format, so you will need Adobe Reader to open the document.
