Winter Quarter 2015 Schedule

Please find below the Ancient Societies Workshop schedule for this quarter. We are excited about the speakers that we have scheduled for this term, and we are looking forward to the conversations that their work will bring about.

January 27th Kenneth Yu (University of Chicago, Divinity School)
“The Hermeneutics of Sacrifice in The Homeric Hymn to Hermes and in the Selinuntine lex sacra.”
February 17th Ortal-Paz Saar (Safed Academic College, Judaic Studies)
“Graeco-Roman Binding Spells and Babylonian Magic Bowls: Conceptual Parallels.”
February 24th Yann Berthelet (French National Centre for Scientific Research, ANHIMA)
Consecratio and sacrifice in Ancient Rome.”
March 3rd Kate Agnew (University of Chicago, Classics)
“Greek cult institutions and the religious subject in Roman Asia Minor.”
Please note the unusual time of the first two meetings. All meetings will be held in Classics 21, and the latter four meetings of the quarter will convene at 3:30 pm.
