There is a moment when disbelief suspends; the air is still and our senses become
acute. Observation begins to fuse with identity and desire. The sublime has
rendered us immobile to its advances. Even after we have sucked all the
potential power from images, they still hold us rapt.
While the camera's record mediates, documents and distances, Danielle Paz
reopens the emotional door through which we romanticize. By optimizing and
revealing familiar tools, everyday costumes, and an occasional vaudevillian
cameo, her work faces femininity as it is pared down to its most heroic form.
Reconsidering the female and the context of viewing, here is the journey of identity
through possession, exploration, and sometimes the absurd.
