Graduate Workshops in the Humanities and Social Sciences

Sex Panics

The Sex Panics Workshop will interrogate sexuality, sex, and gender as grounded, emergent, pragmatic, and meaningful cultural practices. Pushing beyond identity-based approaches, we think through sexuality with the same rigor, ambivalence, and curiosity with which it is deployed, played with, and contested in presenters’ various field sites. Rather than focusing on assumed categories of female, male, queer, or delineating communities based on transcultural sexual identity, we invite scholars to consider how such categories are constantly contested and in flux and in part created by the researcher’s methodology.
