East Asia: Transregional Histories Workshop

We invite students, faculty, and scholars from other academic communities to present original work that speaks across the national lines of East Asia as well as the disciplinary lines of the academic community. While recognizing the importance of the nation-state in historical understanding, we believe that it is just as important to give exposure to transnational, regional, and global themes that have been obscured by the national paradigm. Such approaches can prove particularly fruitful when undertaken at a level of understanding beyond traditional departmental and specialty boundaries.

The workshop is usually held on Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:30 pm at the John Hope Franklin Room (SSRB 224) in the Social Sciences building. A typical session starts with short introductory remarks by the presenter, followed by the discussant’s comment, the presenter’s response, and Q&A and floor discussion. All papers will be circulated via this website around one week before the meeting.
