Interdisciplinary Archaeology Workshop

2008-2009

Haskell Hall Mezzanine, Room 102

alternate Thursdays 4:00 - 5:30pm

WORKSHOP THEME

The primary objective of the Interdisciplinary Archaeology Workshop is to forge a lively and respectful dialogue on aspects of method and theory that crosscut diverse disciplinary boundaries. This year, our theme focuses on material culture as a point of departure for engaging with "encounters" of all kinds. We will explore these encounters from multiple perspectives: What are the logics and dynamics of past and present socio-cultural interactions? What connections may be drawn between ancient and modern contexts, between interpretation and evidence, and between history and politics? We hope this year's discussions will help bring together students of the material past working within different traditions, who may otherwise encounter each other only in limited fashion. With this in mind, we invite all interested parties to attend.
