Welcome to the blog of the University of Chicago’s Workshop on Late Antiquity and Byzantium!
The focus of our workshop, broadly defined, is any topic related to the Late Antique and Eastern Mediterranean world, 330–1453 CE. Our goal is to facilitate feedback for graduate students’ work from both professors and their peers, as well as to foster interdisciplinary discussion. While our approach is primarily historical, we also encourage a variety of methodological, philosophical, and topical approaches, including archaeology, theology, philology, economics, literature, science, and law. Interested students of Classics, Art History, Islamic and Slavic Studies, and other related fields are all welcome to submit their work.
We generally meet on Tuesday afternoons at 4:30 pm in the Cochrane-Woods Art Center. More specific times and locations may be found by consulting our quarter schedule.
