				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Join the Religion and Ethics Workshop, as<a href="http://www.haverford.edu/faculty/tjohnson"> Prof. Terrence Johnson</a>, of Haverford college presents a paper entitled, &#8221;Deliberating from the Margins: The Moral Problem of Blackness and the Democratic Value of Double Consciousness&#8221;. The paper will be distributed in advance.</p>
<p>In his first book, <em>T<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Tragic-Soul-Life-American-Democracy-Imagining/dp/0195383982/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1349168659&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=tragic+soul-life">ragic Soul-Life: W.E.B. Du Bois and the Moral Crisis Facing American Democracy</a></em><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Tragic-Soul-Life-American-Democracy-Imagining/dp/0195383982/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1349168659&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=tragic+soul-life"> </a>(Oxford University Press, 2012), Johnson retrieves Du Bois’s category of tragic soul-life to expand contemporary debates on the role of religion in public life. The paper he will present furthers themes touched upong in Tragic Soul-Life, exploring public reason, epistemic diversity and the spirit of democracy.</p>
