Jan 24 Robin Bates

The next meeting of the Social Theory Workshop will take place this coming Monday, January 24 at 8pm in Wilder House (5811 S. Kenwood Ave). We will be discussing a paper by PhD candidate Robin Bates, entitled, “An Empire within an Empire: Écouen and the Cultural Logic of Napoleonic France, 1804-1815″

Nov. 15 Tal Yifat

The Social Theory Workshop is pleased to announce its next meeting will take place Monday, November 15 at 8:15 pm in Wilder House (5811 S. Kenwood Ave). We will be discussing a paper by sociology graduate student Tal Yifat, entitled “From Self-Denial to Self-Expression: Discipline and Autonomy in American Upper Middle Class Childrearing, 1869-1915.”

Please note we will be starting fifteen minutes later than usual.

Robin Bates

The Social Theory Workshop will begin its Spring Quarter schedule on Monday, April 12th, with Robin Bates, “The Girl with No Mind: Pauline Guizot’s sentimental education and François Guizot’s law on primary schools in postrevolutionary France.”  The meeting will take place in Wilder House (5811 S. Kenwood Ave.) at 8:00 pm.  All are welcome.
