Clinical Ethnography

Workshop Info

Student Coordinator(s):
Julia Kowalski
Time: First and third Tuesdays of each month, 4:30-6:00 p.m. Human Development South classroom 5736 S. Woodlawn, Room 301

The Clinical Ethnography Workshop seeks to facilitate interdisciplinary discussion and research on how cultural meaning and social structure influence the identification, experience, and treatment of mental illness and other forms of distress. In particular, we seek to explore the intersection between ethnographic practice and other methodological commitments that form clinical and institutional practices. The workshop’s meetings provide an opportunity for faculty members and students working in disciplines such as psychological anthropology and cultural psychology and psychiatry to discuss issues of culture, mental health, and institutional engagements with distress or disorder.
