About

Technically now a study group, Islamic Studies Workshop provides a forum for graduate students from various disciplines and areas of study to share what they know about Islam and Muslims in a way that is not methodologically, geographically, or temporally bound.  We examine a variety of phenomena (political, social, philosophical, artistic, scientific, economic, etc.) through the lens of Islamic traditions.

We workshop student papers and dissertation chapters, allow students to practice presenting papers before attending academic conferences, and discuss best practices for teaching Islam in the classroom.

The coordinator for the 2021-2022 academic year is Alexa Herlands. Please contact her with any questions.
